Knightly News December 2023

November Meeting
Monday November 20 meeting began at 6:45 PM with a visit from Hoscar Castillo and his wife to personally thank the Council for our financial assistance and prayers for Hoscar. We approved expenditures including $2500 for the new missalettes for Good Shepherd and $500 for the Food for Families Program. Our annual Corporate Communion and Server Recognition is scheduled for Feb 18. It was decided NOT to conduct a church membership drive on the same day. Solicited more members to assist with the upcoming Red Kettle Campaign bell ringing for the Salvation Army of Calumet County. Shared information on members facing medical issues and prayed for them before adjournment.

Walking for Life
Members of our Council gathered at the Green Bay Planned Parenthood “counseling” site to promote LIFE, Oct 21. We walked the sidewalk, prayed the rosary, and sported signs such as Choose Life, End Abortion, or Defend Life. We will do this again before Easter. Prayerfully consider joining us for that march.

Men’s Group Underway
We are back! The fall term of Faith Exploration began Sep 25. We meet each Monday night at 7 pm in the church hall (except 3rd Monday). A brief social and snack is followed by a 30 min stimulating faith-centered video. As a group we then discuss the video or share aspects of our individual journey. Positive reinforcement and ideas for additional ways to grow closer to Christ and bring our families with us are always present. No long-term commitment – come as often as you can.

Coats for Kids
Council 2556 partnered with the Calumet County Salvation Army to purchase, collect and distribute coats to families in need this season. Twelve volunteers were needed on each of three days to transport, clean, sort and distribute the coats. Knights and their families accounted for over half of these worker. This year’s drive assisted more than 80 families and provided 300 coats as well as hats and gloves and snow pants for the very young. Something new this year was the purchase of coats through the State Council which covered 50% of the cost allowing Council 2556 to purchase 2X the number of coats. The Salvation Army provides administration to assess need of clients, handles the advertising and secures the distribution site.
