Knightly News April 2024

March Meeting
Monday March 18 meeting began at 6:45 PM with Prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. We approved a payment to our 2024 Seminarian, Nicolas Huza. Please pray for him as he works to complete his studies at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Minnesota. We discussed some recent activities and plans for upcoming events. Our members voted to donate funds for vestments for Deacon Juan Carlos – between the Council funds and individual donations we presented a $600 check to the parish for this. We closed the meeting with prayers for members and their families recovering from illness or surgery and all living and deceased Council members.

40 Days Vigil
Seven of our Council participated in this year’s spring vigil Saturday March 9. Yes, Planned Parenthood is still doing abortions in Wisconsin. We cannot legislate this terrible tragedy away. We must educate people and change their hearts!

Hispanic Retreat
Deacon Juan presided over a special retreat for our Hispanic Community after Mass Sunday March 3rd. He had presentations and discussion with three groups and then a social. Following this Fr Jon officiated at Reconciliation for those desiring; while Deacon led a Holy Hour with Eucharistic Adoration, Benediction and a formal procession in the church. He invited the KofC to assist with the canopy for the procession along with incense, music, candle bearers and seven 4th Degree Knight Honor Guard Members! It was an inspirational and moving event.

Special Thanks to Volunteers
Thank you to all those Knights and others who assisted with the planning, set up, parking and the many untold coordination activities to support the March 9 Women’s Conference at Good Shepherd. It was a marvelous success as evidenced by comments from many of the 450 women who attended.

From the Files
This year marks the 100th Anniversary of our Council #2556. In the early days of the Council, meetings were held twice per month and had speakers explore items of faith or current issues. Some topics that caught my eye deserve sharing with current readers: In Feb 1927 the following teaser was included in the newsletter; The automobile today is a dependable vehicle of transportation. Do you remember the days of the first cars and all the ills and annoyances that were common then? Brother William Hein is going to give us few highlights on the “Then and Now of the Automobile”.
In Jan 1936 the meeting included discussion of the centennial of the formation of Wisconsin’s Territorial Government in 1836. Additionally, a member of the Chilton High School faculty discussed developments in the Ethiopian War with Italy invading the country to extend its colonial empire.
Then in Feb 1936, members attended the KofC Bowling Tournament in Wausau. The trip was completed by train from Kaukauna for $2.25 per person round trip!
