Protecting God's Children
VIRTUS: Protecting Children in the Diocese of Green Bay
What is Virtus?
VIRTUS is an education program utilized by the Catholic Diocese of Green Bay to help raise awareness and prevent sexual abuse in our Church and society. VIRTUS training is required of all parish employees and every volunteer who interacts with our youth in our school and through various parish ministries. For more information about VIRTUS, please visit http://www.gbdioc.org/protectingourchildren/virtus.html.
A Safe Environment
Each person has an inherent dignity as a beloved child of God. The Diocese of Green Bay is committed to providing a safe environment in our parishes, in our schools, in our Faith Formation programs, and in all of our ministries, especially those that serve children, youth and individuals at risk. If you want to learn more about the programs and resources available through the Diocese of Green Bay to live out this commitment, please click on the following link: http://www.gbdioc.org/ministry-formation-portal/safe-environment.html.
Awareity Online Incident Reporting Tool
As we work toward a safe and secure environment for all people who live within our diocese, we are committed to making it simple and confidential to share red flag behaviors such as:
- Sexual abuse of a minor (if this is currently taking place, immediately call 911 to report)
- Boundary issues
- Threats of violence
- Concerning behavior by clergy, staff, or volunteers
- Anything that you may find stressful or out of the ordinary and feel compelled to bring forward regarding clergy, staff, or volunteers
To help with these efforts, the Diocese of Green Bay Office of Safe Environment has implemented a web-based incident reporting tool called Awareity. It is a comprehensive platform for reporting, tracking, and documenting incidents and concerns. To learn more or to report an incident using the Awareity tool, click the butterfly icon or visit https://www.gbdioc.org/protecting-our-children/awareity-incident-reporting-system.
