Serving Those In Need In Our Parish & Community

Social Concerns Committee

Committee members focus on various social and justice issues affecting the Parish, local community, and the world, including local and world poverty, voting responsibilities of Catholics, ministering to the bereaved, and prison ministry.

Bereavement Ministry

Good Shepherd bereavement ministry strives to be a helpful presence at all funerals of our parishioners. We go to the funeral home and represent the parish at the vigil service. At the church, we serve as “go to” people at the entrance; someone to answer questions of “where do I find….?”

After an initial time of training, we meet once or twice a year on an irregular schedule. One of our members acts as caller to those of us who will be on duty for a particular funeral. We also send out cards at Christmastime for the bereaved of that year and call on bereaved who wish to be visited about 6 weeks after the funeral.

Pro-Life Ministries

Spiritual Adoption Ministry

In January all parish members are invited to spiritually “adopt” and name an unborn child, then pray daily for the health and welfare of that child, and that its mother chooses life. In October the parish will celebrate by hosting a baby shower, with all baby supplies and funds collected benefiting pro-life charities.

Volunteers coordinate the collection of diapers and other baby supplies for pro-life charities.

Bundled in Love Ministry

Parish volunteers knit, crochet, sew or quilt baby items for premature babies, such as: caps, booties, blankets and quilts. These items are shipped to Food for the Poor for distribution to any of 17 Caribbean and Latin American destinations.

Mother’s Day Rose Sale and Baby Bottle Collection

Red roses are sold after all Masses on Mother’s Day weekend, and baby bottles are distributed to be filled with spare change and returned by Father’s Day, with all proceeds benefiting pro-life organizations and causes. Volunteers are needed to help with rose sales.
